Scooter Charger Plug Types: A Visual Guide

Quick answer

Identify your plug by its shape and pin count, then match the voltage. The common ones: round 3-prong (hoverboards), DC 5.5mm barrel (many budget scooters), GX16 3-pin screw-lock (high-voltage scooters), Segway/Xiaomi round coaxial, Razor inline 3-prong, and XLR. Some Segway models have no brick at all — just an AC cord.

Round 3-prong (hoverboards)

A small round plug roughly 8–9mm across with three pins, sometimes with a flat or notch to key it. It is the standard for hoverboards at both 42V and 29.4V, and is also used by some scooters. Because both voltages share it, always check the label. A larger 12mm version exists on some older scooters.

DC 5.5mm barrel

A hollow cylinder, usually 5.5mm outside with a 2.1mm or 2.5mm center pin. It is used on many budget and kids' scooters at 25.2V and 42V, and on some 48V models. A 2.1mm plug will feel loose in a 2.5mm socket and a 2.5mm plug will not fit a 2.1mm one. Check polarity too; most are center positive.

GX16 3-pin (aviation plug)

A metal round connector about 16mm wide with a threaded locking collar and three pins. It handles more current, so it is common on 52V, 60V and 72V performance scooters with 58.8V, 67.2V and 84V chargers. Pin layout can differ between brands, so match the brand's wiring as well as the voltage.

Segway / Xiaomi round coaxial

A round plug around 8mm with a center pin and a circular outer contact, used by the Xiaomi M365 family and many Segway-Ninebot scooters with a 42V 1.7A charger. It looks similar to a hoverboard 3-prong at a glance but has a different pin arrangement.

Razor inline 3-prong

Razor's classic lead-acid scooters use a charger with a female inline 3-prong connector at the end of the cable. The newer lithium E Prime line uses a smaller Razor 3-prong. Razor lead-acid chargers are rated about 24V and must not be swapped with lithium chargers.

XLR

The same 3-pin connector used for microphones, sometimes found on older scooters and some hoverboard multi-tip kits. Look for three pins in a triangle inside a round metal shell with a push latch.

Segway built-in charger (AC cord only)

Models such as the Segway-Ninebot Max G30 and G30P have the charger inside the scooter. You plug a regular AC power cord (a figure-8 or cloverleaf style socket on the scooter end) straight into the wall. You do not need, and should not buy, an external brick for these — just a replacement power cord.

Adapters and multi-tip chargers

Plug adapters only change the shape, not the voltage. A tip adapter is fine when the charger's output voltage already matches your battery. See our universal charger guide before buying one.
